Wesley Acres, a WesleyLife community in Des Moines that offers levels of living ranging from Independent Living and Assisted Living to Memory Support, Short-Term Rehabilitation and Long-Term Care, has been designated a 5-star health center by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
The federal agency announced the designation during publication this week of its most recent set of ratings. CMS identifies the 5-star designation – its highest award – as indicating that the quality of care the community provides is “much above average.”
“Achieving a 5-star rating has been a major focus for our team, and we are thrilled, on behalf of the residents we serve, with this designation," Damon Buskohl, Executive Director of Wesley Acres, said. "I am grateful to the many team members, residents, and residents' families who have partnered with us to make this happen.
"So many wonderful people contributed to this accomplishment with hard work, support, and pride -- most specifically our Director of Nursing, Tracy Myers, and Health Center Administrator, Brandon Kranovich."
Buskohl said the award "verifies what we’ve long known – that the exceptional level of care and clinical expertise that have been cultivated at Wesley Acres can make a real difference in the lives of the individuals who place their trust in us." He explained that the rating is a critical tool for potential residents and clients as well as referring partners to use as they evaluate campuses to meet a variety of needs.
"The fact that we're a 5-star community, coupled with our broad network of services to meet the needs of any older adult no matter where he or she calls home, makes Wesley Acres an attractive option for anyone seeking services or care," Buskohl said.
Wesley Acres' health center offers physical, occupational, and speech therapy for individuals transitioning from hospital stays, in addition to providing an environment for those needing long-term clinical care. The community’s short-term rehabilitation environment is differentiated in the market by, among other amenities, therapy involving cutting-edge technology and equipment.
“Our comprehensive rehabilitative care is designed to facilitate shorter, more effective stays,” Buskohl said. “Our goal is to make it so the people we serve don’t have to go back to the hospital – and that, after they leave us, they continue to grow stronger at home.”
