WesleyLife Public Health Nursing was recently awarded a $10,000 grant from the Mid-Iowa Health Foundation in support of its Public Health Nursing Program.
The WesleyLife Public Health Nursing Program specifically targets vulnerable populations who are un-or under-insured and have limited nursing options available to them to deliver in-home nursing services to support the health and independence of the older adult.
In 2012, 99 percent of the 132 people served were unable to pay for any portion of the nursing service they received; yet the program had a 9.5 percent increase in requests for service. The program aligns with Healthy Polk 2020 priorities of expanding health coverage and services for families who can't afford private insurance yet don't quality for public programs, ensuring equal access to health care for all, encouraging medical providers to focus on prevention, education and wellness and empowering people to take responsibility for their own health.
"WesleyLife is extremely grateful for the generosity of this grant from the Mid-Iowa Health Foundation," says Maribel Slinde, WesleyLife Home Care Director. "This grant will directly help Des Moines-area adults by providing nursing services in their home to support their health and well-being while they remain independent in their own home," she adds.
