Ageism Awareness Day: why you should care

Written by Lisa Ryan, Communications Lead | October 08, 2024
As WesleyLife joins the American Society on Aging (ASA) on Wednesday, October 9, in observing Ageism Awareness Day, our goal is to help shed light on this issue and its effects on our society, and ignite ways to change perceptions. After all, at WesleyLife, our movement is to revolutionize the experience of aging!

Ageism refers to stereotypes (how we think), prejudice (how we feel) and
discrimination (how we act) toward others or oneself based on age. It shows up in many ways, and social gerontologists tell us it can be detrimental to health and well-being, can adversely affect longevity, and can even impact our finances.

Throughout October, we'll be posting content about roles for all of us in combating ageism, considered one of the last socially acceptable prejudices.  We'll start today with a primer: an ageism fact sheet prepared by the ASA.

Join us in this fight, won't you?
